Challenge
Flipping Aces is a restaurant hospitality management provider seeking a professional website that would set them apart from their competitors. The initial scope focused on creating an eye-catching homepage, with options to add interior pages in the future. With only an existing logo provided, the project offered complete creative freedom in the brand’s visual direction.
my role
My responsibilities included establishing the overall design direction and creating a fully stylized homepage in Adobe XD. While the project was ultimately developed into a fully functional website, I was not involved in the development after the initial handoff of assets.
Approach
An initial review of competitor websites revealed two common approaches: either highly sterile layouts with minimal visual personality, or dark, moody designs centered heavily around food photography.
To differentiate Flipping Aces, I developed a brighter, more welcoming visual direction that emphasized the social and human side of the restaurant experience through vibrant color palettes and people-focused imagery.
The layout was also designed with responsive behavior in mind, allowing elements to intuitively stack and adapt for mobile devices. A directional mobile concept was provided for the development team, accessible through the centered Flipping Aces logo in the mockup below.
Result
The initial Adobe XD mockup was approved by the client without revisions and subsequently handed off to the development team for implementation. While the final live site remained largely faithful to the original design, the project would have benefited from continued design oversight during development to ensure greater consistency in element sizing, typography, and overall visual execution.
